Coach Gwen (Hip Hop Dance / Parkour)

MOVE Parkour Team - Gwen

A bubbly person who is always improving herself and the Parkour community, Gwen is a devoted Parkour athlete, coach and role model to many all over the world, especially female Parkour practitioners. She’s also an experienced dancer for over a decade.

She aims to build a supportive Parkour community of girls who celebrate each other.

Follow her on Instagram and Twitch.

“I love how positive Gwen is. She not only teaches the kids how to build strength physically not also mentally. I’ve seen how much ours kids grown and progressed after each lesson and enjoying every single bit of it! This is definitely the best place to send your kids to.”

– Angeline

Coach Charis (Contemporary Dance Movement)

MOVE Team - Charis

Charis started her movement exploration as a dancer, first experiencing various street dance forms and then contemporary dance. Seeing herself and her peers getting injured over the years while performing, practising and being a dance instructor frustrated her, which led her to find ways to help herself and others.

Gaining new understanding of her body and movement over the years through continual learning and exploring ways to strengthen the body, she began seeing similarities between art forms. With this came a versatility in how she helps people find novel and practical solutions for their needs.

She loves that movement does not discriminate and she see clients from all ages and capabilities. From the very young to the very old, professional athletes to someone who has trouble lifting their leg, movement is for everyone. She’s also a choreographer, singer, and co-founded Teadent.

Follow her on Instagram.

“Charis draws from her significant background in dance and other movement disciplines to come up with sequences for participants to practice and work on, while interspersing strength conditioning exercises in between to ensure that everyone gains the requisite strength and mobility to execute the moves confidently and safely. The class provides a safe space for individuals to explore creativity in movement while working within their physical capabilities.

– NY Wong

Coach Jay (Gymnastics)

MOVE Team - Jay

Coming from a background as a competitive athlete, Jay believes that when a person finds a physical discipline they enjoy, being fit becomes a welcomed “side effect”. Having step foot in a wide range of disciplines, he is able to draw relations to the problems faced by his students and teach them accordingly. He gets his ecstasy when he sees people having their breakthrough.
Not one to simply teach, for the student to achieve the physical movement itself, he pays attention to the mental aspect of training greatly, because like ‘strength’, ’flexibility’, ‘mobility’ or any other physical abilities, ‘confidence’ can be trained progressively.

Having a combat martial arts background, his learning from Gymnastics as an adult, together with some dabbling in Parkour, gives Jay a very hands-on knowledge of the movement mechanics of the human body, and how to apply proper (and not fancy) conditioning/drill to best serve the needs of the student, which is unable to be taught via theories alone.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Jay also likes to explore other disciplines to supplement his trade. So while his expertise lies in teaching gymnastics and bodyweight movements, the knowledge from other disciplines gives him tools to see the bigger picture.

Jay strongly advocates teaching a student at the pace they should be learning at. That way, they can progress to become a better and independent learner.

Follow him on Instagram and Website.

“I have been training with Jay since 2015. I had very poor body awareness, mobility and flexibility and was prone to injuries, so much so that my orthopaedic surgeon commented that I was starting a collection. Under Jay’s patient coaching (and I’m a very slow learner), I’m amazed at how far I’ve progressed, looking back at what I couldn’t do 5 years ago to what I could achieve today, which I never thought was possible. Jay patiently taught me how to listen to my body while safely executing exercises within my abilities, always mindful of my history of injuries. His quirky humour and creativity in figuring out ways to help me understand and execute a move safely ensures that there’s never a dull or slack-off moment during training. I give 5 stars.”

Coach Terence (Capoeira)

MOVE Parkour Team - Capoeira Terence

Terence’s passion for Capoeira began in 2000 when he joined the initial interest group in Singapore.

Since then he has trained in the styles of Capoeira Regional, Angola and currently Contemporânea.

The further he delved into Capoeira, the more his passion for Brazilian culture grew. This led him to take his first trip to Brazil as a sort of pilgrimage to experience and learn from the source.

Aside from Capoeira, he has also been involved with other Brazilian performing art forms like the Samba dance and Samba Batucada (percussion). Terence is also a swimming instructor/coach by day and has worked with children and teenagers for seventeen years in the expatriate and local community.

He is one of the instructors representing SSC Capoeira Singapore.

Coach Sulaiman (Parkour)

MOVE Parkour Team - Sulaiman

When it comes to trying anything new, Sulaiman is always game for it. Hence, it is not remotely suprising that parkour is the only discipline that has stuck with him for over a decade given how he views it as a great tool in combining knowledge and skills gained from exploring other activities. These include hobbies such as tricking and aggressive inline-skating, performing a dance/parkour segment during the National Day Parade in 2017 or even using his content-creation media skills to publicise the Lion City Gathering!

A self-described “drifter artist” that went to film school, Sulaiman always aims to attain a cinematic standard when it comes to learning new techniques and tricks no matter how many times he fails. Since 2016, he has always found joy in coaching parkour to anyone, whether they are the elderly keeping active, a young child developing their motor skills or even an infatuated teenager hoping to impress his crush by doing a backflip! These interactions not only keep him accountable to his goal but the shared movement explorations has led to valuable creative ideas that he hopes to share with everyone.

Here’s a clip of him guiding our Phoenixes (the Parkour aunties) in a Parkour class.

Camp itinerary

Why is there Group A and Group B?

Depending on the group size, kids may be split into 2 groups, Group A and B, to have separate programmes running in parallel. Rest assured, kids from both groups will get to experience all the activities planned throughout the camp period.

You will be informed 2-3 days in advance before the camp starts about your child’s grouping.

Potential plans in response to the evolving COVID-19 situation

As the situation is constantly evolving, we would like to be clear about what we will do should things get worse.

  1. Camp Postponement or Cancellation due to tighter measures
If the camps cannot be run during the period due to stricter COVID measures by the Singapore government (e.g. Circuit Breaker), customers will be notified via email and WhatsApp, and will be given the option to either shift their camp booking to a later date or get a refund for their camp cancellation.
  2. Camp Venue Changes due to Indoor Venue Closures
If physical activities at indoor gyms are prohibited during the period due to stricter COVID measures by the Singapore government, we will shift all indoor Parkour activities to outdoors at Bishan Spot 1 (https://goo.gl/maps/Kmfeu2JypKuBGhcy5), and other disciplines’ activities to outdoors. Customers will be notified via email and WhatsApp about the specific venue changes as soon as the measures are announced.
