All our classes are well-rounded where we focus on proper warm-ups and learning dance technique required, so that when the time comes for choreography, during class and after, you can better enjoy dancing and go on to do even more with skills we equip you with.

Why learn Jazz Dance?

To build your confidence in dancing, improve body awareness and coordination, learn to express themselves through movement, in a fun, safe and encouraging space. Students can keep fit, explore a dance genre with a deep history yet relevant to today’s trendy dances.

  • Who can attend: Minimum age of 12 years old, no maximum age! Join with an eager heart, readiness to challenge the body, and an open mind.

Coach Daphne

MOVE Team - Daphne

Since 2009, Daphne has been teaching dance from beginner to advanced levels. Her students range from preschoolers to adults and have gone on to win prizes at regional dance competitions, including Get the Beat and ATODI (Bangkok). She is consistently evolving her methods to teach better.

Beginning her journey in her secondary school dance CCA, she honed her skills in ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip hop at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Danz Inc, and through the Developing Artiste Programme at Jitterbugs Swingapore, as well as month-long intensive training programmes at Broadway Dance Center and Peridance Capezio Center in New York. Favourite performances she’s done include Joanna Dong’s concert So Here I Am, Rainbows for Gardens by the Bay, and Desire: An Okto Telemovie by Cake Theatre.

Daphne is the co-founder of J•A•M.

Coach Yizhen

MOVE Team - Yizhen

Trained in jazz, hip hop, salsa and others, Yizhen loves exploring and expanding her knowledge of different dance genres and movement modalities. She is dedicated to sharing this with students from teens to adults, teaching dance and Pilates to enhance their quality of movement in order to better express themselves.

An NUS Dance Ensemble alumna, Yizhen has mentored under Lionel Araya as part of L.A. Dance Connection’s Scholarship & Apprenticeship Programme (SG), as well as Sheila Barker, Joy Karley and Jamie Jackson in Broadway Dance Center’s International Student Visa Program (NY) where she received the Outstanding Student Award. She has worked with Alex To, Grasshopper, Buddha Stretch and Kumari Suraj, among others. Memorable performances include Great World Cabaret (Dream Academy), the National Gallery Festival Opening, and Carnival – The Choreographers’ Ball NYC 10th Anniversary. Favourite choreographic works include ROUSE – Contemporary Dance Showcase (NY), Glass Canvas (2014 & 2017), LAMBANŌ – A Contemporary Fusion Dance Show (2012, SG) and Dream Academy’s Broadway Beng: Last Beng Standing.

Yizhen is the co-founder and director of J•A•M.
